Glentoran's 23rd Irish Cup title hopes received a boost as they defeated Strabane Athletic 4-0 in the fifth round. The match was originally scheduled for January 10 but was postponed due to a frozen pitch. The Glens took the lead midway through the first half thanks to Jordan Stewart's goal. Danny Amos provided the assist with a low cross into the box. Strabane Athletic had a chance to equalize just before the half-hour mark but Niall McGinley's chip went wide of the post. Pat Hoban, standing in for captain Marcus Kane, made the most of the opportunity and scored his 15th goal of the season in added time. James Douglas' initial shot looked destined for the sidelines but Hoban reacted quickly to redirect the ball into the net. Hoban scored his second just after the hour mark, finding the target after Strabane Athletic goalkeeper Shane O'Gara had saved Stewart's goal-bound effort. Defender Michael-John Kamara added a fourth and final goal 12 minutes from time with a powerful header from Amos' corner. The 4-0 win sees Glentoran progress to the sixth round, where they will face Drumaness Mills on February 7.
