Glentoran Football Club confirmed the signing of 20-year-old winger Lekan Sule from Rosario on 20 August 2026. The Nigerian-born player returns to The BetMcLean Oval after stints with Harland & Wolff Welders, Bangor Amateurs and Rosario.
Background
Sule spent two years in the Glentoran Academy between 2019 and 2021 before moving on to local clubs. He later joined former Glens striker Chris Morgan’s Rosario side, where he played for a short period before returning to the club that first nurtured his talent.
Training & Development
After impressing during a pre-season friendly against Glentoran, Sule has trained with the first team and will continue his development under manager Declan Devine and coaching staff. He is primarily a left-winger but can operate across the frontline, bringing pace, directness and a willingness to take on defenders.
Managerial Praise
"Lekan came on to our radar when he played against us for Rosario during pre-season. He was one of the standout performers on the day and immediately caught our attention," said Devine. "He showed genuine pace and directness, played with courage and was always prepared to take players on and make things happen."
Future Plans
Glentoran have committed to a pre-season fixture against Rosario next summer, providing Sule with a chance to test himself against full-time players. The club will give him time and support to adapt to a professional environment, with no unnecessary pressure.
Squad Update
Sule is the fourth signing of the summer, following defender Zeno Ibsen Rossi, midfielder Greg Sloggett and winger Rhys Walsh. The additions aim to strengthen the squad for the opening weeks of the 2026/27 campaign.
Player’s Perspective
"Signing for Glentoran is a huge opportunity for me and one I simply couldn’t turn down. I spent time at the Club when I was younger, so to come back now with the chance to become a professional footballer is a very proud moment," Sule said. He added that he is ready to work hard, listen to the coaches and learn from experienced players.
