Crellin acknowledged the opportunity arose from Mills' setback but stressed his disappointment for his teammate and friend. He highlighted the healthy competition between them, noting how it drives both to improve in training under goalkeeper coach Elliott Morris.
Having kept two clean sheets and contributed to six points in the opening Premiership fixtures, Crellin said he has enjoyed the challenge despite the derby defeat to Linfield. He emphasized the collective desire to help Glentoran succeed and the importance of pushing standards daily.
Looking ahead, Crellin warned against complacency with Crusaders matching Glentoran's six-point tally. He noted the visitors' strong response after last season's relegation battle and their recent wins over Ballymena and Portadown, stressing his team must focus on their own levels.
The club confirmed Rhys Walsh's season-long loan move to Annagh United, with the 20-year-old winger returning after his Sunderland AFC spell. Crellin's performances will be key as Glentoran aim to kick on in the league.
