Glentoran Football Club have marked a major milestone with a special 80th-anniversary edition of the Glentoran Gazette. The club's matchday programme celebrated the occasion at Tuesday night's Premiership game against leaders Coleraine.
Jimmy Carter, the Chairman of the 1923 Committee and Acting Gazette Editor, highlighted the achievement. "This edition pays tribute to the dedicated team behind a publication that has been named the NIFPCC Programme of the Year for an incredible 25 consecutive years," Carter said.
The anniversary edition, priced at £4 and available inside the BetMcLean Oval, features a wealth of content. Designer Beth Stafford selected striker Pat Hoban as the cover star. Regular contributors include Philip Stevenson with his 'Sketch In Time' feature on John Devine, and Henry Muldrew, who contrasts true supporters with event attenders. The programme also includes an in-depth guide to opponents Coleraine, thoughts from manager Declan Devine, news from Around The Oval, and match action from games against Larne and Bangor provided by Pacemaker Press and long-serving club photographer Tommy Sewell.
Current context
This celebratory publication comes as Glentoran sit eighth in the Premiership table with seven points from six games. Their recent form reads one win, one draw and three defeats from the last five outings. Supporters can also check the latest standings to see how the title race is shaping up.
The Gazette, described as 'by the fans, for the fans', traces its origins back to a predecessor called the Glentoran Newsreel. That very first edition in 1946 was sold for one penny at a game against Linfield.
