Glentoran manager Declan Devine has set his sights on silverware this season after a trophyless 2025-26 campaign. The Oval outfit, who currently sit third in the Premiership with 3 points from 1 game (W1-D0-L0), face Linfield in the first 'Big Two' derby of the season at Windsor Park on Saturday.
What went wrong last season?
Devine's side ended the 2025-26 season empty-handed, finishing third in the league and falling short in both domestic cups. The manager admits they 'licked their wounds' over the summer but is determined to bounce back.
Why this season is make-or-break
'I need to put silverware in the cabinet this year,' Devine told BBC Sport NI. 'The expectation at this club is to compete for trophies, and I believe we have the squad to do that when everyone is fit.'
What to expect in the derby
Despite Linfield's poor start to the season, Devine expects a fierce contest. 'Form goes out the window in derbies,' he said. 'It's about who wants it more.' The two sides will meet again in the County Antrim Shield on Tuesday, 1 September.
Glentoran have scored 2 goals and kept a clean sheet in their opening game, a 2-0 win over Limavady United. Their next fixture is away to Crusaders FC on 19 December.
